Welcome to the Florida Wines Web Site.
A site for wine lovers with an emphasis on Florida wines and wineries.

Hello!  My wife and I started this site to help others appreciate the wines of Florida, and because we thought it would be fun.  There is no wine-snobbery here!  This site is intended to help novices and enthusiasts alike enjoy the wide array of wines produced in Florida.

Wine for DummiesWe didn't always like or understand wine.  We didn't really pay much attention to wine at all.  It was Jenni's growing interest in cooking, and in using wine in and with food, that got the ball rolling.  After a few encounters with "mixed" results, we decided it was time to do some research.  We got a copy of Wine For Dummies and started reading.  It is now in its fourth edition and has spun off several specialty volumes dealing with specific types of wine (red, white, French, Italian, etc.).

Although we recently moved to North Carolina, we lived in the Orlando area and found that was an easy day-trip to any of Florida's wineries.  If you live in or are visiting the more northern or southern areas of the state, an overnight excursion is probably a better choice.  Stay in a nearby bed & breakfast over the weekend and call it a mini-vacation!  The Wineries & More! page will give you all of the pertinent details for locating the physical and web addresses of your destinations.  While there is a lot to be said for Internet-based mapping & navigation sites, I can highly recommend Delorme's Florida Atlas & Gazetteer for finding your destinations.

Relax!  There are only two kinds of wine - the kind you like and the kind you don't like.

Don't let all of the jargon and wine-ese get in the way of  simply enjoying your fermented grape juice.  Does the temperature of the wine matter?  Sure it does.  Does some wine go better with food than by itself?  Sure!  It is just a matter of learning some basics about what you want in a wine, trying it out, and deciding whether or not you liked it.  The Tasting Notes and Food & Wine Pairings pages will help you help yourself to understand why you like or do not like a particular wine or pairing.
Geo Caching -- What It Is & Why It Is Fun

What is geo-caching?  And why is it on a wine site, anyway?  Maybe it is because wine and scavanger hunts are natural pairing!  We had never heard of Geo Caching until we met an enthusiast at a Bed & Breakfast we were staying at in Georgia.  Thank you, Steve, for sharing your hobby with us.  Geo Caching is a high tech scavenger hunt.  Geo cachers locate caches by using a hand-held Global Positioning Device. When we learned about Geo Caching, we thought it would be a wonderful way to incorporate a treasure hunt with a wine vacation.  At the Geo Caching website, you can enter the GPS coordinates (or just the address for less tech-savvy cachers) of the winery you are visiting.  It will then show you all the caches located within a specified radius from your starting point.  And, voila, your two-hour trip to a winery becomes a day-long, or weekend-long scavenger hunt for buried treasure, 21st century style!
